The Organisation
The Football Association (The FA) is the governing body of football in England. Responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels, from grass roots through to the professional game; The FA Cup and the England International teams. 

The Role
The Technical Director is responsible for leading and developing a world class team of coaches, support staff, educators and players. Managing a budget of circa £40M, the Technical Director will take the long term view on how to continuously raise standards and innovate both on and off the pitch. They will ensure that the pathway from the development teams through to the England Men’s senior teams is always integrated, learning is shared and the core principles of how we play are embedded. 

The successful candidate will be someone who can build on our progress and success and take it to the next level, ultimately delivering England senior teams who are ready to win in 2022 and 2023. 

They will also have the motivation and ability to develop a world leading education department and ensure our high performance centre continues to deliver first class service to our coaches and players.

This is a broad leadership role that is also part of The FA executive, reporting directly into the CEO and responsible for nearly 300 staff. With this comes a requirement to participate in the overall leadership of the FA, ensuring the Technical Division is held to high standards of governance, forward planning and financial discipline.

Direct reports include the England senior men’s manager, Men’s U21 Coach, Head of Education, Head of Development teams, Head of Team Strategy and Performance and Head of Strategic Programmes. 

Note. The women’s game reports into the Director of Women’s Football, however, we do not have two separate technical departments. We have an integrated way of working where the Head Coach continues to be supported on technical matters and regularly reviews the progress of the senior England Women’s Team with the Technical Director. 

Candidate Specification 
As the leader of FA Education and our senior national coaches we expect this person to have the highest possible technical qualification - the UEFA Pro Licence. 

The most suitable candidates will have worked extensively in English football, have significant leadership experience and personal values and behaviours that are aligned to those of The FA.

Experience of successfully partnering with stakeholders and boards is vital, this role is a crucial ambassador for The FA in the rest of the game. 

The best candidates will be able to demonstrate resilience and the strength of character to cope with a large and broad agenda, high pressure moments and difficult decisions.

Candidates must be based at St. George’s Park and be available for international camps. 

The preferred candidate/s must be willing to undergo a rigorous screening and vetting process. 

St. George’s Park 
The FA’s national football centre, St. George’s Park is the home of 28 England teams, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists and is driving a plan to improve coaching opportunities for all. It is a unique setting for developing high performing teams and leaders.

The world-class facility, set in 330-acres of Staffordshire countryside, has 13 outdoor pitches, including a replica of the Wembley Stadium surface, a full-size indoor 3G pitch, a suite of rehabilitation and sports science areas, and an indoor futsal sports hall. Alongside Wembley, it sits at the heart of The FA’s strategic vision to unite the game and inspire the nation.

St. George’s Park is the home of FA Education and delivers all FA national coach education courses with a renewed emphasis on promoting diversity and inclusion. The range of courses, covering a variety of disciplines, help communicate the England DNA philosophy, which outlines a vision for future England teams and players.

Sports science and performance is integral. The Performance Centre at St. George’s Park is a bespoke sports medicine, rehabilitation and human performance facility combining cutting-edge technology with elite medical expertise. It is recognised as a centre of excellence by FIFA.
